Elon Musk Calls For Impeachment Of Federal Judge Over Treasury Access Ruling

According to ShibDaily, Elon Musk, head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has called for the impeachment of New York federal Judge Paul Engelmayer. This demand follows a ruling that restricts Musk and his team's access to critical U.S. Treasury Department payment systems and confidential data. On Sunday, Musk took to his social media platform, X, to label Judge Engelmayer as a "corrupt judge" who is allegedly protecting corruption. Musk emphasized the need for immediate impeachment, expressing his frustration with the ruling.U.S. President Donald Trump had tasked Musk and his team with the mission to significantly reduce the federal budget, decrease the federal workforce, and eliminate various federal agencies and regulations. Thus far, the DOGE team has concentrated on agencies that represent a minor portion of the federal budget, such as the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). Their efforts have included attempts to access the U.S. Department of Treasury's payment system to stop the flow of funds to the agency, as reported by the Associated Press. On February 8, Judge Engelmayer issued a ruling that restricts government officials and special employees not directly affiliated with the Treasury from accessing systems containing sensitive data. He cited concerns over the "disclosure of sensitive and confidential information" and the "heightened risk of hacking" as reasons for siding with the plaintiffs. This decision came after a lawsuit filed by 19 Democratic state attorneys general, who raised alarms about Musk and his team's potential access to confidential information. They argued that President Trump had not "faithfully executed the laws enacted by Congress" by granting Musk and his team unprecedented access to the Treasury's computer systems and sensitive taxpayer data.In a separate post on X, Musk further expressed his dissatisfaction with the ruling, suggesting it was part of a broader effort to protect "scammers" from scrutiny. He questioned how fraud and waste of taxpayer money could be stopped without examining how funds are spent, calling the ruling "absolutely insane." Following the court's decision, Musk shared a post from a follower on X, suggesting that DOGE should defy the court's order.
