Squid Game Season 3 Breaks Viewership Record for Netflix

Squid Game Season 3 may have concluded the deadly competition, but the show’s record-breaking streak continues. The third and final season of the survival thriller series amassed an impressive viewership record when it debuted on Netflix on Friday, June 27. What is the viewership record that Squid Game Season 3 achieved? Squid Game Season 3, simply called Squid Game 3, drew a total of 60.1 million views, according to Netflix’s weekly Top 10 list. Trailing behind the top spot is Olympo Season 1, while Squid Game Season 2 ranked second for the June 23-29 viewership charts. The 60.1 million views of the third season is a solid number for Netflix, though Season 3 is still behind Season 2’s debut record of 68 million views. Despite the decline in numbers overall, the current record placed Squid Game 3 as the streamer’s ninth most-watched non-English television series. The streamer regularly updates the list of the most popular series globally. The first season of Squid Game enjoys the No. 1 spot, while the second season makes it to No. 2. Other non-English titles that made it to the list are Money Heist Parts 3, 4, and 5; Lupin Parts 1 and 2; La Palma; and Who Killed Sara? Season 1. The new season follows Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) as he endures the deadly competition once again, determined to defeat the games and end them for good. Season 3 also saw the return of Lee Byung-hun as Hwang In-ho/the Front Man, Yim Si-wan as Lee Myung-gi, Kang Ha-neul as Kang Dae-ho, Wi Ha-jun as Hwang Jun-ho, and more. The synopsis for Season 3 reads as follows: “The third and final season of Netflix’s most popular series finds Gi-hun, a.k.a. Player 456, at his lowest point yet. But the Squid Game stops for no one, so Gi-hun will be forced to make some important choices in the face of overwhelming despair as he and the surviving players are thrust into deadlier games that test everyone’s resolve. With each round, their choices lead to increasingly grave consequences.” Squid Game 3 is now streaming on Netflix. The first two seasons are also available to stream on the platform. (Source: Netflix)
