Google's Gemini may soon master RCS messaging

Google has been busy baking Gemini into all of its products (such as Android Auto) and adding support for all kinds of features, and RCS messaging may be next on the list. At the very least, it seems to be in Google’s pipeline. RCS messaging is an enhanced version of texting that lets you do everything from sending high resolution photos and videos to showing typing indicators. The typing indicators can be particularly useful because you know when someone is responding to something you said. Gemini is capable of sending messages right this very moment, but it doesn’t support RCS. That means you don’t get any of those advanced messaging features you get if you manually type out a message and send it to the recipient. However, that could be changing in the near future. As reported by Android Authority (via Android Police), there are indications that Google is adding RCS support. RCS support for Gemini was found in code for the latest Google App version It’s not clear when Google plans to roll this out or if it will even get it working. However, the latest version of the Google App, which is version 16.25.44, contains strings of code that reference RCS in correlation to Gemini. Right now, the app only mentions being able to fetch RCS capabilities. This indicates that Gemini will be able to see what the device’s RCS capabilities are. It should then be able to make use of them. If Google gets the support working. When and if support is fully rolled out, it would allow Gemini to do at least some of what RCS can. This should include sending high resolution images as well as add or play audio files or clips. Though, at the moment, nothing in the app references what Gemini will actually be able to do with RCS. Google spent a lot of time getting RCS working on Android. With that in mind, the company is likely to make an announcement about what features Gemini can utilize.
