Next Minecraft update makes Copper useful, adding new tools, weapons, armor, and a Golem

Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Neowin @LoneWolfSL · Jul 1, 2025 16:14 EDT Mojang promised a whole lot of new features to Minecraft this year as part of a new strategy involving bite-sized updates, and it is delivering on that promise quite well. Just a couple of weeks after shipping the Chase the Skies update and the Vibrant Visuals graphics overhaul, Mojang has just revealed what's coming to the sandbox survival game next. While the update does not have a name attached to it just yet, it seems to be focused almost entirely on making Copper a useful metal for players. Right now in Minecraft, Copper ore can be found much more abundantly than Iron, but there isn't much players can do with it other than use it for decorations and spyglasses. The new update will deliver a completely new equipment tier for Copper. This means tools, weapons, and armor can all be made using the classic metal, making it a good choice for players as an early-game boost. "Its durability sits somewhere between stone and iron, which reflects onto the equipment you craft from it, be it a weapon, tool, or piece of armor," explains Mojang. "For example, a copper pickaxe will help you mine a bit faster and for a bit longer than a stone pickaxe but won’t allow you to mine any additional materials – you'll still need to upgrade to iron for that." At the same time, Mojang is bringing the Copper Golem as a new mob that players can create using a carved pumpkin on a copper block. This old mob vote contestant is a unique one, as its entire purpose seems to be sorting player inventories when coupled with the new Copper Chests. All of these new features from the third Game Drop of 2025 are now available in experimental form to test out as part of the Minecraft Preview 1.21.100.23 update for Bedrock Edition.
